I have been wanting to alter a globe ever since I saw Mandy Staner's globe she did for Maya Road.
I mean isn't it STUNNING!!!!!!???? Anyway I wanted to make one that would go with my vintage stuff in my living room. Since I just got a new box with all kinds of goodies from Canvas Corp Brands including tissue paper from 7 Gypsies and mist from Tattered Angels I figured it was time!
Fortunately I am a bit of a globe hoarder so I chose one from my stash. First you need to take it a part. Remember to keep your pieces! I took the stand and spray painted it a flat gold color and then waited for it to dry. While it was drying I painted my globe with a thick acrylic Gesso. First to cover the globe ( I didn't want it showing through) and to give it a good base to being doing my Modge Podge.
Next I gathered my 7Gypsies tissue paper, Modge Podge, brush and went to work. As you can see I had my globe on a cup while I worked since it was off the base. While applying the tissue paper remember to mark and puncture the hole where the globe fits into the stand. With this particular tissue paper the numbers were printed right side up and upside down so I didn't have to work about the direction I placed it on the globe.
I actually put two layers of tissue paper for this project. I liked the darker color of it.
To make it darker and to give a vintage look to it I used Tattered Angels Cardboard from the Naturally Aged-Fine Wood Weathered Birch kit and my heat tool. I also added a bit of Viva Inka Gold Metallic Rub.
A couple of 7Gypsies tags and a key from Maya Road and it's done! The last step was just putting the pieces bag together and getting the globe back into place. I love how it turned out....NOW I just need to figure out where to put it!
