{A Flair for Buttons}

favorite circles | orange gearle

Hi! Orange Gearle here with a layout to share with you using flair from the Geo Love Flair Set. I am also using mainly Pinkfresh Studio papers that are found in the Flyover States July Kit from Paper Issues. 

I started by formatting my photo in Photo Shop so that it was shaped like a circle and just under 3 inches. Then I used my 3 inch punch to punch my photo out with a bit of a white border.

The Pinkfresh studio paper from their Office Hours collection had tons of circles on it -- so I punched them out as well using my 1, 1.5, and two inch paper punches. I also punched some tiny circles that I'm going to guess are 1/2 inch or smaller! I splattered some inks for pops of color, and then I sprinkled the circles across the page and added my flair! I mean you cannot have a circle layout without flair, right?

This flair matches the colors of this collection perfectly!

When I shared this photo as an instagram post I titled it "some of my favorite circles", which became the title for this layout. I made a video of my process if that's something that suits your fancy!

Better Together | Diane Payne

Hello everyone and happy Wednesday! Diane here sharing a new two page layout with you. My husband and I celebrated our 30 year wedding anniversary on Monday. It had me thinking about all the changes we have seen since we were first married and I thought it would be fun and interesting for our family to some day read about the changes and see how much we changed in those 30 years with a picture from our wedding day and a recent picture on vacation. 

In addition to the camera flair from the {a flair for buttons} shop I used a few hearts to embellish the page keeping the focus on the journaling.

I also used a few stamps to create a pattern in coordinating colors on each page.

Music To My Ears | Diane Payne

Happy Friday everyone, Diane here sharing a memory documented with a quick and easy 6x8 pocket page.

I printed my photo at 4x6 and added some musical notes to tie in with the theme of the story and pocket cards. To add a little more interest to the pocket card I outlined it with black ink along with a puffy embellishment at the bottom of the journal card.

Once I was done adding embellishments to my photo and pocket cards, I slide them into the page and added my music flair on top of the page protector. I like how it overlaps the photo and pocket card.

The flair is from the Feel The Music Flair Set! I love it...the colors tied into the colors of the other products perfectly. You can find the set at the {a flair for buttons} shop.

Keep Calm and Workout | Diane Payne

Hi everyone! Diane Payne here with you today sharing a funny workout layout. 

I wanted to tell the story of how my dog loves attacking my face with kisses when I'm down on the ground doing yoga, lol! I used a full page photo on the left with a title overlay. On the adjacent page I created a grid of circles on a transparency and filled the circles with journaling, flair and other embellishments to complete the layout.

Who needs yoga for stress relief when you have a sweet puppy, right?!

The flair is from the Workout Flair set from the {a flair for buttons} shop. I like how the black flair button pops against the background and stands out from the other elements on the page.

The saying on flair ties in with the theme of yoga too...keep calm!

On the back side of the transparency I layered more circles and embellishments. I love how this looks layered over the photo.

I used three pieces of flair in a visual triangle. The flair is from three different sets, and I think they worked quite well with the Maggie Holmes Sunny Days collection. Here are a few close ups. 

The piece above is from the Hashtag Summer Flair set. The pink one below is from the Primary Arrows 1 Flair set.

The last piece is my favorite! It is from the Watercolor Patterns Flair set. I am in love with the watercolor look!

I had a little problem with my title -- but I found a way to fix it. Check out my process video to see what happened!

Hey everyone, Michelle here today with a new LO to share.  I just love summer themed LO's. I think it's the florals that make me happy the most.  This new collection Splendor from My Mind's Eye is full of floral and pretty colors.

I love to take photos in the summer.  There are so many more possibilities when you're outside.   Lucky for me, my girl is always a good sport!

I love the neutral color of this flair button.  It would work for any LO!

Love That Smirk

Hey there! It's Devra here today sharing a project that I made for the Paper Issues Boys Will Be Boys challenge. 

Did I hear boys? Oh this challenge is right up my alley. I like using a larger die cut, and backing it with bright colors and bold patterns. It's very me to do that. It also means I don't need to use a lot of embellishments. I layered a few die cuts, then added, you guessed it: flair!

I chose pieces from 3 different sets, Hashtag boy, Hello Summer and Epic flair. The turquoise  and yellow pieces fit right in. I love the Live Out Loud piece. It ties all the colors together.

Oh this child of mine. He has the best grin in the world. And he knows how and when to use it.

Relax

Hello, Laura here with you today. It's beginning to look a lot like summer here. We bought a hammock last year and it is the perfect place to relax. Right now it's up high enough that I have to use a chair to get into it, but that allowed the cat to climb in and join me!

Hi! Orange Gearle here with this layout using flair from my favorite flair shop and the May 2019 Clique Kit Great Expectations. This flair is from the Brave Soul Flair set. Here is a look at my mini book.

I used a Paige Evans cut file called 1 Piece of Paper Mini Album. I added gesso and then color using mostly Shimmerz sprays. Finally, I added papers and embellishments mostly from Crate Paper's All Heart collection -- that is in the Great Expectations kit.  Here are a few more close ups.

I used stickers and die cuts from the kit (All Heart collection) as well. This was so fun to put together.

I made a few tags from the papers using my Big Shot. Some of the tags are peeking out of the book. I love that!

I have a full process video and a quick flip through (which includes a close ups of each page) on my You Tube channel if that's something that suits your fancy!

Urban Panther

Laura here with you today. I spent all weekend celebrating National Scrapbook Day. What a needed day for me and what better way way to celebrate than being able to bring you a layout using some super cute flair. My adorable kitty climbed the tree the other day and did what she does best, act adorable. She found it's a great place to be around, yet safe from the toddler grandson, and provides a great view to survey her kingdom. 

I had this cute woodland paper and the Little Things and Just Clouds flair sets were perfect. They added to my story and accented my papers so well.

So Much Fun | Diane Payne

Hello crafty peeps. I'm sharing a TN spread I put together for my Favorite Travel Memories album. This album highlights favorite travel photos or favorite travel memories over the years. My layout today features a favorite photo on a much needed vacation full of R&R!

The title on the left was created by cutting rectangular acetate letters down to an outline. I stitched them down on the page for a little extra texture and to avoid using too much adhesive that would show through the acetate. The right side has a partial circle that opens to reveal my journaling, photo and right side of the layout. I love that the "vacation selfie" flair is in a speech bubble. I placed it close to my face so it would look like I was saying it. :)

I attached the fold out circle with washi tape. Using different colors and patterns on each side. 

It was such a beautiful sunny day in the photo so I added the cute cloud wood veneer pieces and stamped "love this" on one and then outlined them both to make them stand out more.

The adorable flair is from the Selfie Flair set available in the {a flair for buttons} shop. Do you like to scrap travel photos? I highly recommend creating a favorite photo/memories travel album. It is one of my favorite albums to date.

Lookin' Sharp - cacti cards with Riikka

Moikka! It's Riikka here today with my last post for this blog. It's a strange feeling as I've been a part of the design team over three years as I started in September 2015. Boy what a ride it has been! I hope you have been inspired by the projects I've done! 

A long the years I've done mixed media projects using the beautiful flair, I've done cards and layouts, but I guess these last cacti cards are the most clean ones I've done! But they are all about the flairs! Just a few other elements to support the fun buttons. All the flairs are from the "Cacti Love" set.

I started the cards by inserting my card bases into my typing machine and typed the greetings on them. I love using my mom's old typewriter! I usually try to add some "errors" into the mix so that the look is less like printed, more like actually typed. Then I added some watercolor and ink to the opposite corner, added a touch of stamping and finally layered the die cuts, stickers and twine underneath the focal point, the flair. 

With these cards I want to thank Shelley for this wonderful time here and all the inspiration her fantastic flairs have given me along the years and still continue to give! Thank you all for reading and wishing you all the best! Big hugs to you all!

With all the colors in this LO, I knew I needed a colorful flair button.  As soon as I looked through my stash of flair, this rainbow heart button jumped out at me.  It was absolutely perfect!

Special Bond | Diane Payne

Happy Monday crafty friends! I'm sharing a 6x8 2 page spread that was inspired by a mixed media photo image I recently saw in a magazine while in the book store. The photo was cut into strips with word stickers incorporated into the image. How fun is that?! I knew this was something I wanted to try...ASAP!

I wanted to tell a story about the special love that my daughter and our dog share for each other and selected a recent photo of my daughter and our dog from our Christmas card photo shoot.

Since my photo had faces and small details I kept the space between the photo strips to a minimum. The strips were cut the same size as my chipboard wordfetti.I love how the photo strips, chipboard word, flair and felt hearts look layered over the photo. For the background I added the word "bond" from a digital image randomly on the background to emphasize the title and create a fun pattern. I also added the journaling and then printed.

On the opposite side of the layout I wanted to include lots of bits and pieces from my stash but yet, keep the design clean. To accomplish this I used a 6x8 die cut with a grid of circles. I added stitching around the circles and filled each one with bits of patterned paper, flair, felt hearts and stamped images.

On the photo, I used the Capture This flair from the I Shoot Flair set and on the left side I used the Today flair from the Word Flair set. You can find both of these sets in the {a flair for buttons} shop.

Everybody In

Hey there! I have a new page to share today. I played along with a Scraplift Sundy challenge at Paper Issues. I used the new Carta Bella Baseball collection.  I filled the center of the page with stickers, ephemera, chipboard and of course plenty of A Flair for Buttons. I made it feel clean and simple, even with all the embellishing. The flair adds slo much; color, shape and dimension. 

In case I've not mentioned this before, I love baseball. It's really the only sport I follow. As far as Im concerned, opening day should be a National Holiday. I celebrate every opening day with my own party, consisting of game after game and all the proper ballpark foods. Nothing tastes as good as that first hot dog of the season.

Easter cards by Riikka

Hi there! It's Riikka here today to share my first April project. It's also my second last one as a design team member to A Flair for Buttons as I'm stepping down from the team after April. It's been a wonderful time and I certainly am going to use the buttons still in my makes as they are so lovely! 

It's soon Easter time so I thought to make some cards using the lovely vintage Easter flairs I had. They are from "Vintage Chicks and Bunnies" set. I chose a cute little chick to the other card and a white hare to the other. To compliment the Easter flairs, I added one other to each of the cards. The chick I paired with a green heart flair from the "Two Tone Heart" set and the hare with a beautiful flourish patterned flair from the "Sweet" set. 

I wanted the cards to be fresh looking and mirror the spring time. I chose to go with yellows and greens and added flowers to both, too, to get that fresh look. Even though the dried fruit slice might be more autumn like, I thought that the yellow colors fitted the theme well and the slices created a great setting for the flairs.

Dog Quirks 2 for 1 | Diane Payne

Hello everyone! I have a 2 for 1 for you today! I promise it is not an April Fool's joke. I put together a 6x8 layout of 5 quirky things about my dogs, one layout for each, and I'm sharing both of them with you today.

I sat down and made a list of the the things that make each one of them “them” and then put it together in list form with items from my stash and flair.

They were super easy and fun to make.  For the layout about Dixie Rose I used bright and bold colors accented with a heart and hashtag flair.

The hashtag flair is from the Hashtag Girl Flair set and includes lots of great words to describe your favorite girl or girl fur baby.

I displayed the list of quirks vertically next to my photo. In order to get all the journaling to fit I typed it up in Photoshop, printed onto card stock and then stamped my design in colors that coordinated with the numbers.

On the quirks layout for Daisy Mae I went with a more subdued color palette, inspired by the colors in the photo and the patterned paper.

I chose a piece of flair from the Hello Spring Flair with colors that coordinated with the patterned paper and other embellishments.

I added a couple more hearts at the top of the photo and created a word strip with Daisy Mae's name to place over the chipboard heart.

My list of quirks is displayed in a horizontal list directly over the patterned paper.

Hi Orange Gearle here with this layout using several pieces of flair from the {a flair for buttons} store and the Swirly & Twirly cut file from The Cut Shoppe. I grabbed a bunch of different Pinkfresh Studio collections (Out and About, Everyday Musings, and Joyful Day) and mixed and matched and came up with a rainbow of color!

I cut it first using white card stock.  Then, in the Silhouette software, I deleted all of the middle parts, and cut the outer part of the file using the rainbow paper from Out and About. This made it super easy to back the file!

The cut file inspired me to find all the circles and add them to my layout!  I used a few different sizes of circle punches, as well as circle embellishments to add clusters of circles throughout the page. And if I'm going to add circles, you know that means I'm adding some flair!!

I popped up some of the circles with craft foam and added a piece of flair in each of the clusters.  This helped add some fun textures and dimension. This rainbow flair was PERFECT -- it's in the Tropical Vacation 2 flair set. Here are a few more close ups.

Nooo! | Diane Payne

Hey everyone! Diane here, popping in to share a double 6x8 layout. I’m documenting the mishap I had renewing my drivers license last year with a full page photo, speech bubbles and flair!

 

It was a bad day. I did not pass my eye test after standing in line for HOURS and was told I had to get glasses. The glasses and thumbs down flair were perfect for expressing my feelings on the matter. Technically, I believe the flair is a “thumbs up” but I couldn’t resist turning it upside down to express my dislike for the predicament, lol.

 

I used the speech bubbles mainly as sub-titles and added flair and stamped items to some that supported the theme and mood on the subject of my layout.

 

The glasses flair is from the adorable Krafty 2 Flair set. The thumb up/down icon flair is from the Planner Love Flair 1 set. You can find both of these in the {a flair for buttons} shop.

Ateneum - a layout by Riikka

Hello there! It's Riikka here with my second March creation! I decided to create another layout using some new papers. This time the topic is Ateneum, the Finnish National Gallery, or rather all the galleries we have visited. 

We've been taking the kids to galleries and exhibitions from an early age. Both my husband and me are nowadays owners of "museum card", with which you can visit a number of museums around Finland for a yearly fee. As usually kids are free, it's then really easy to visit different art museums and exhibitions together. The photo in the layout is taken in Ateneum, thus the title of the page.

I used five different flairs in the page. I chose them mostly because of the colors so that they matched the rich palette of the papers I used. There's the chevron one from Linen Chevron and the toadstool from the Animal Tea Party that echo the reds of the flowers. Then there's Encouraging Words 1 one to match the lovely blues and hint of blues are also found in the camera flair from  Capture Life 2. The wood patterned one from Texture 2 some how fitted the rich tones - maybe because the tone and the look of the flair remind me of mahogany hardwood floor!

Hey there! It's Devra here today showing off the ever so versatile Linen Polka Dots flair. When I add flair to my projects, I usually grab pieces from different sets that fit whatever mood or theme I'm trying to convey. Today however, is not the case.

This floral wreath cut file is backed by so many patterns, I needed to find a way to make it feel cohesive, without making it any more busy! Using the coordinating colors and  simple polka dot pattern does just that. It adds dimension too!

So that's my tip for today. Don't be afraid to use flair from the same set on your page!  See you next time!

Linen Polka Dots

Fitness Journaling with Laurel

Hi everyone, it has been awhile for me. Life sort of got in the way of my crafting for a bit there. 

I decided a couple weeks ago to start a fitness/weight loss journal. In order for me to keep up with it, I have to have something that is quick and easy to do. I decided to choose one photo per week (I take a few) to document and tell my story - either how I'm feeling, what's been going well etc. 

Now being that I decided a couple of weeks ago... I couldn't have my journal begin in the middle of February so I went back and found some photos I could use from each week leading up to the first 9. Now I'm more intentional about the photos I take.

Each week will be done on a 4 X 6 piece of cardstock and the same colors will continue through the journal. That's my OCD sneaking in. The 4 X 6 is just big enough for a small photo and a bit of journaling - and a button ;)

Here is my title page, I used the Silhouette to cut my title.

As you can see... I was playing catch up when I decided to do this journal so the first few week's are pretty simple. 

Simple or not though, I did still manage some stamps, dies and buttons.

I love how the buttons fit nicely and add some dimension to small pages like these.

Hello!  Orange Gearle here with a fun layout for you! Here is a look at the layout!

I am also working with a kit from Clique Kits called Wonderful You. As soon as I saw that comic paper, I knew what I wanted to do! First I set up my photos in Photoshop so they would be wonky squares like the background paper. It worked and I was pretty excited about that! I picked out three pieces of flair from the Comic Words 2 Flair Set.

This flair made the layout, if you ask me! Here are a few more close ups:

100% Joy | Diane Payne

Hey there friends, Diane here with you today sharing a layout I used to bring myself out of the "after the holidays" blues.

The kids had gone back to school and work and home life was feeling mundane without the holiday excitement. I decided to think about all the things that were making me happy. Guess what happened? It kicked me out of that funk and now I have a great capture of everyday life from January and February.

I had a lot of photos so I decided to use a grid layout and a variety of pocket cards that I spruced up with stitching, flair, and other embellishments.

The left side of the layout is 9x12 and the right side is 6x12. 

I used a 4x6 pocket card for my title along with a gold pinked circle with the 100% flair from the Numbers Phrases 2 Flair from the {a flair for buttons} shop.

On this filler card I added a transparent heart and the Find Joy flair from the Script Words Flair set.

My stitching details were in pink, which I love for a change. I used stitching to outline words, entire cards, or underline words for emphasis.

Hey everyone, Michelle here today sharing a new LO.  Do you ever go through your photos and find a photo you can't believe you haven't scrapped yet?  I found this super cute photo of my boy and couldn't wait to get it on a LO!

The papers and embellishments are from the Cocoa Vanilla Studio Boys Rule collection.  The cut file is from Scrapbook Nerd, designed by The Cut Shoppe.

I used 2 fun flair buttons and put them in the middle of the O's in the word cool.  They fit perfectly there!

Fly Fly - a layout by Riikka

Hi there button fans! It's Riikka here today with a travel themed layout. I got these new vintage map patterned papers and just had to do a page using one of them!

The topic of the page is where my two girls have been traveling so far. We've only been around Europe, but they have been on board a plane several times now. Their first flight was to Berlin, then we traveled to London and next flight will be to Copenhagen. 

To embellish the travel themed page I used four different flairs. The fan of the So Retro 3 set transformed into the propeller of the plane as I hid the base behind the photo. Well, at least it resembles a propeller! The vintage map print I used as the background required something similar on top, so I added the map printed flair from the France set. I also added a crackled white one from Texture 2 and the phrase "This Day" from Smash Words 1.

UO vs ASU

Hello, welcome to March! It's just that much closer to Spring arriving, at least in the northern hemisphere. I thought it was high time to scrap the photos of the college football game that my brother came down from Alaska to attend. We had a ton of fun and ended the evening with a W! I chose a springish color palette that fit our school's colors and added light, whimsical elements. #FUN, from Hashtag Boy was the perfect little touch for this fun layout.

Hi Orange Gearle here with this layout of my daughter. I am using three gorgeous pieces of flair on this one! Here is my layout:

Since my daughter's name is Bea, I thought it was the perfect cut file to use with a pic of her looking her BEAutiful self. I also liked the idea of backing the BEA with a different color. :-) I used a punch to punch out different sizes of butterflies to add as embellishment. AND I added some awesome flair from {a flair for buttons}, of course!

This flair (above) is from the More Lovely Words 1 flair set. I love the blue flower.  

The "dream" sentiment on the above flair was perfect -- with little pops of blue. Both the dream flair and the flair below are from the Lovely Words 2 flair set.

Bea had been in the sun the whole weekend, and looked so brown! So that is what I journaled about!
