{A Flair for Buttons}

Our Captured Memories

This year is all about my One Little Word "DISCOVER".  I'm trying to incorporate that in all area of my life.  I thought it would be fun to step outside of my comfort zone to work out my "Shabby Chic" muscle.  I used some vintage patterned paper, diecut pieces, stamps and even stencil & paint to build the background / layout.  The paint blends into the paper, so only if you stare very closely will you spot it.

Shelley has designed quite an array of flairs for all craft styles, and today I decided to use two on this layout.  They help complete that Shabby feel, and can be found in the A Flair For Buttons shop that has been on a summer hiatus and is scheduled to open its door in the next couple of days.

I hope you will take some time this week to dust off your hoarded flairs and use them on a project.

Beautiful

Hey everyone, Michelle here today with a new LO to share.  I'm kinda funny with my flair buttons, sometimes I feel like my LO's just need that one button to complete it and then sometimes I think it needs 5!  LOL  With this wreath design it was so easy to add 5!  I just love the height and texture they add to my LO's!  I used the Doodlebug Hello collection.  

Let's take a closer look at those buttons, I really could have used any of the ones in my stash!

Grillin' and Chillin'

Hi everyone, Laurel here.  I love summer for a number of reasons (the heat is not one of them... I much prefer the temperatures of spring and fall). But... hubby's barbering... that I love!  I think that BBQ foods are some of my favorites.  What about you?  

Anyways, that is what inspired this card:

Isn't it fun? So... when I saw the BBQ themed flair, I had to have them.  The paper from Echo Park worked well here.

I cut the apron using my Silhouette. 

I wanted the chalkboard look flair to mimic a label on the apron.  I then stamped and colored the beer (Unity Stamp Co.).

To complete the theme, I fussy cut the fun banner from the pattern paper and then added the hamburger flair.  

This would make a great guy card don't you think?

Sweet summer cards by Riikka

Hiya, has your summer been sweet so far? It's Riikka here today to share a set of two pastel summer cards with you. The idea to these came from the sweet "Retro Little Girl" set with ice cream, milkshake and pastel tones. I did add a cake from the "Animal Tea Party" as well, as it looked sweet and delicious, too. 

Both of the cards are done in a similar way even though they have different color schemes. The one above has a blue shades inspired by the ice cream flair I used in it and the one below is mainly in green to highlight the pink flowers and flair I chose to decorate it with. 

The cards have a mixed media influenced backgrounds and then a die cut doily shape on top with a lot of flowers and two flair buttons each. I used sequins and epoxy stickers to finish both cards as they reminded me about sprinkles you could use to decorate an ice cream.

So have fun in the sun, enjoy the summer and get yourself a scoop of delicious ice cream! Thank you for stopping by today!

Retro Little Girl ; Animal Tea Party

Hey there! It's Devra here today. I have a fun, silly project to share with you today. A co-worker and I came to work in almost identical outfits. Of course we had to take a photo. So then of course I had to scrapbook the photos!

 

The giant title says it all!  It's the 4th of July cut file from Paper Issues. I used flair from 3 different sets to complement each color.

What a perfect pair, The Selfie flair from the Comic Words 1 set sits right next to, you guessed it, our selfie

Tucked next to the white like a fireworks burst is a piece from the Noted Flair 1 set

Lastly, next to the bottom photo I had to use a piece from the Stars & Stripes set. It has all three colors tying them all together.

So Sweet

Hi everyone, Laurel here.  I thought I would sneak in a quick post this weekend.  I used some Donut flair... yum donuts!

I cut the large donut with my Silhouette and the smaller one with a die from CTMH.  Of course the little one at the top is the flair and was the inspiration for the whole card/color combo!

I layered the papers, stitched then mounted the donuts on foam squares for some dimension.

 

Now... I think I'll go treat myself to a donut!

Hello Summer

Hi everyone, Laurel here.  How has your summer been so far?  Our weather hasn't been the greatest... well, truth be told it has been perfect for me (around 20 degrees rather than the normal high 30s) but some people prefer the hot :)

Anyways, the fresh summer fruit is taking over our fridge and it inspired this card.

I have used the Summertrime Flair along with some My Mind's Eye papers.  

 

A few things say summer to me - the most important of which is holidays (I'm a teacher), but of course camping, water and fresh watermelon.  My kids and hubby love it, I'm not a fan.  I know, I've tried it many times as it looks delicious... but... 

I used a die from The Stamps of Life to die cut and piece the watermelon.  All else is from My Mind's Eye.

Splish Splash

Hey everyone, Michelle here today with a new LO featuring some fun summer themed flair buttons! This LO came together really fast. I used the Poolside collection from Fancy Pants. This LO was really all about the embellishments. No techniques or overthinking, just having fun with it.

Secret garden - a layout by Riikka

Hi there flair button fans! It's again Riikka here to share a layout with you! The topic of this page is summer, my girls and a bit wild garden of my parents' summer house.

There's this huge bush of lilac in the garden. It's been there for years and years so last summer my two girls thought to build a secret little den inside the bush. They're always building huts and dens here and there, but this one was the best in my opinion, surrounded by the fragrant lilacs. Unfortunately my parents did a drastic move this spring and cut the feral lilac and all the rest of the untamed bushes and plants almost to the ground to give room to new plants and plans as well as get more light into the yard. But last year my kids had a little secret garden of their own. 

Even though the topic was partly lilac and greenery, I went with a pink and yellow color scheme. Partly because it's the most summery I could think of and partly because of the lovely flair buttons I had lined up for the page. Like always, I started with adding mixed media touches to the page. I included a photo of the background before the added embellishments and paper layers so you can better see the mediums. There's embossing powder, watercolors, stamping, watercolor pencils and splashes. I first added the pale yellow embossing powder by adding embossing ink through a stencil and then heat embossing it with the yellow. Next I added some watercolors on top, then the black stamped parts using a couple of stamps and lastly the watercolor pencil swirls. 

I followed the same pink and yellow color scheme in my choice of flairs for the page. There's a total of five flairs in the page - can you spot them all? The one I used from the "Watercolor Patterns" set had a perfect combo of pink and yellow on it. Then then "Sweet girl" one from the "Sweet" set had pink as well as the melon patterned from the "Fruit Slices". The bee brought some pale yellow to the page, a flair from the "Vintage Bee 4" set. A white "grace and joy" from the "Inspirational Words 6" seemed appropriate, too, as these two bring both grace and joy to our lives.

Hi Orange Gearle here with a new layout for you using flair from two flair sets.  Here is my layout:

The #family flair button is from the Hashtag Summer Flair set, and the other two pieces are from the Primary Arrows 1 flair set. They fit perfectly with this collection from Pinkfresh Studio called Simple & Sweet.  Here are a few close ups:

I started with white card stock and I applied yellow Vicki Boutin Art Crayons using a brayer. I also used a cut file from The Cut Shoppe called Flower Arrangement. 

I absolutely love how versatile the arrow flair pieces are! They add the perfect pop of color and help move your eyes toward the photo (or whatever you have them point to)!

This #family flair is probably my favorite. It fits the sentiment of this layout and matches the collection. I also like the simplicity of it's design. It's exactly what I was looking for.

I added some stitching around the page and through my title to finish it off. I also made a video of my process if that's something that suits your fancy!
