Hello! Ashli Oliver here with the next installment in our No More Floating Flair mini-series. If you missed the previous posts, you can find them here:
All caught up? Great! Let's get started! Since we looked at something slightly complicated and less intuitive last time, I thought I would keep this lesson super simple:
Working Flair Into A Border
Sounds pretty easy, right? It is! Here we have a gorgeous sheet of Webster's Pages paper that has a lovely area in which to build a border on. This will also be perfect to groud our Flair. But first, I want to do a little cutting to tuck my photo in:
See how easy! Now we have a place to tuck our photo in and a ready made border to place our Relax Beach Flair. See below? This would certainly work. And we could keep things simple, but I do feel like that Flair needs a sense of purpose on there, don't you?
We are lookin' good! To further emphasize the circular theme, some confetti can't hurt either:
After adding some more embellishments, title, and journaling...
There we have it!
See how wonderfully easy that was? Very little thought or effort required!
The key to this being SO easy, is to utilize a patterned paper with an existing design that can be turned into a border. Here are some other papers that would work well for this too:
This fun paper from Fancy Pants Captured, already has all of those repeating circular elements for you! Picture your photo on the bottom right, flair scattered along that design, and title and journaling up above... beautiful!
Same goes for this paper by Studio Calico:
This fabulous design by Elle's Studio lends itself to some craft knife work and just imagine how cute some flair would be nestled into that pre-printed design on the left!
And of course, if you don't prefer working with paper that has a pre-printed element like the ones above, put some of the border strip papers into action. This lovely one from Echo Park's Beautiful Life collection has some fun cirucular patterns that are just begging for Flair:
And don't forget, you can always make your own border too!
So.... Let's review:
- Choose patterned paper with pre-printed designs that can be utilized as a border
- Choose repeated shapes as you are building your border to give your Flair some more grounding
- Get creative with your stash and find ways to create your own borders to serve as grounding for your Flair. Think... Washi, Border Punches, Border Stickers, Paints, Etc...
We would love to see what you make. Just use the hashtag #NoMoreFloatingFlair when sharing on social media. And, as always, if you have any questions feel free to leave us a note in the comments.
I look forward to seeing you in a couple weeks when we will look at Suspending Your Flair...
